York Art Here

In 2005 Shana Berger and Nathan Purath travelled to York, Alabama, a community of 2800 people in rural Alabama. Berger and Purath worked directly in the public and private schools, which have historically been racially divided. Kids were asked to make drawings of their community. The drawings were then digitally collaged into three billboards still on display in the City of York. The York Art Here project was aimed at projecting the idea of collective participation, and developed both personal and symbolic meaning within the community.
